What is the eligibility attend civil service examinations?

The number of times a candidate can attend the civil services examination is based on their community,

- For OBC – 9 tries

What is the structure of UPSC Civil preliminary exams?
The UPSC Civil Services preliminary exam has two papers.
Paper – 1 ; General Studies
The questions will be based on general knowledge about our country and current affairs and one should have knowledge about various current affairs and historical events and things like politics and history and geography of world and India.
Paper 2:
The paper 2 tests the candidate’s aptitude like Logical reasoning, comprehension, analytical ability, Problem solving, Basic Numeracy and even mental ability.
How much cut-off I have to score in Preliminary exam to get selected for Main exam?
- The cut-off marks for every year changes and the UPSC announces the minimum cut off marks needed to pass the exam every year.
- In the Preliminary exam only your Paper-I scores will be counted for the Main exam qualification but you at least need to score 33% in the Paper-II

Can I use calculators in UPSC civil service exam?
Calculators are not allowed for the preliminary exams and candidates can use non-programmable type (Non-scientific) calculators in essay type (ie) Main examination. They have get permission from exam supervisors and interchanging calculators will not be allowed.
Can I clear UPSC civil service exam without attending coaching classes?
That will up to the individual potential and studying methods. If you have proper planning and confidence in your studying method clearing the exam without attending coaching may be simple for you. But if you prefer the environment of studying together with other students and having someone to guide you attending classes will be better for you. In both cases only your hard work can determine whether you will pass or not.
