The Utkal University was established in 1943 in the state of Odisha is one of the oldest educational institutions in India and it offers higher education in various fields of studies in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The Utkal University also offers research and doctoral programs for students who are interested in research. It offers higher education throughout the state with over 260 affiliated colleges that are located around the state and 15 other colleges in law and 6 pharmacy colleges too. It has over 27 departments in undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

The exams for PG courses like M.A, M.Sc, and M.B.A are starting in the first week of the April and the examinations continue until May. The examinations for the other courses are also going on. The Utkal University introduced Choice Based Credit System in the university that allows the students to choose their subjects from the list of the elective subjects that are available and the CBCS system also uses credit point evaluation system instead of mark based evaluation which is known for affecting the motivation of students by announcing the marks and importance in subjects and other things cannot be evaluated completely by the mark based system.
