The Tamilnadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University was established on 1997 and its one of the renown law universities in India. It was named after Dr.Ambedkar who is known as the architect of Indian constitution. The university is recognised by University Grants Commission of India and the Bar Council of India. The university also has memberships of various associations like Association of the Indian Universities, Association of Commonwealth Universities, U.K and Indian institution of Public Administration, New Delhi. The Dr.Ambedkar Law University is the first full fledged sui generis Law University in the country. It offers legal education at its campus and through affiliated colleges in Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Chengalpattu, Vellore and Salem.

The exams for five year B.A.B.L / B.A. L.L.B degree examinations are starting in June 10th 2017. The exam schedule for students admitted during 1997-98 (old regulation) has been announced on the official University website. The first year examinations are starting in 31st May. The examinations for second year students are starting in 15th May and third year exams are starting in 1st May. The examinations for three year B.A L.L.B degree examinations May 2017 are starting in first week of May.

The University also offers distance education courses in M.C.L (Master of Corporate Laws), P.G Diploma courses. The exam results for test conducted in December 2016 for the distance education courses have been published in the university website. There are seven affiliated government law colleges under the Dr.Ambedkar Law University in Tamilnadu. The affiliated colleges follow the syllabus that is made by Ambedkar Law University.
